Frenchie Tips and Tricks from Randy

Welcome to Randy's Ramblings. Every once in a while I get a call that gets me to thinking, which leads to a little rambling on about that topic. Here you will get the benefit of my years of experience as a french bulldog breeder. I will share with you my best kept secrets on how to properly raise, train and care for your frenchie. Feel free to submit a question and when I get a minute I will do my best to answer.

    Visitation

We allow visitations for people to come view the puppies and see if they can bond with one.  There are many stories of home invasions with entire litters being stolen and breeders assaulted. So we do ask for advance  identification prior to any home visits.  This is required of any first time visitors to our kennel.

Also, due to the puppies being susceptible to diseases still at this age, there are some disinfectant protocols we ask you to follow.  Other than that, we just ask you to realize that despite our best efforts, sometimes our puppies make a mess just before company gets here and our house may smell.

All visitations are by appointment only and we ask for two hours notice.

    Health Warranty

Most health Warranties only cover Congenital defects that lead to death decisions. We provide the same warranty.  We even double the standard one year warranty to two if you put your puppies on Nuvet vitamins until they turn one year of age.

While we don’t guarantee or imply any other warranties.  We do like to stand behind our puppies. What I  promise to any buyer of my puppies this following promise. If you inform me immediately of any major issues during the period of your warranty, and let me be part of the process,  IF I BELIEVE I HAVE SOLD YOU A BAD PUPPY,  I will strive to make it right. But the decision to do so and the remedy offered is strictly up to me to decide what is right.  BUT I DO want to make it right.  I just want to be in control of the process and the decision. I am proud to say that i have  never had to use this policy.

    First Vet Checks

When you go for your first vet checks they sometimes,  perform more services than I think is neccesary. The one that drives me crazy is parvo. If they test your newborn pup for parvo, it may cost you $50.00 to $100.00 and they will probably find it.  It’s because we have been vacccinating them with parvo, so of course, they are going to find parvo.  Then it scares you to death, and you panic and call me.

There are some basic symptoms of parvo that are obvious.  The first is they are Lethargic, will throw up and run a temperature.  So if they don’t have these symptoms why spend the money to be told yes it has parvo when really it doesn’t.

Many vets will run a fecal test to see if they are carrying any parasites like coccidia or giarda.  We send medicine home with our puppies to address this issue as its quite common in puppies, due to community living or stress of the transition.

    Poop Eating

NASTY for sure. But why. That’s what everyone asks.  Well it begins with watching their mothers clean up after them and they think its natural.  Then when mother gets weaned and the poop is laying around they go check it out. And low and behold, some of them like it.  While every good breeder does their best to pick the poop up immediately, so they don’t eat poop, its not realistic that we catch it all. So when you get your puppy home this is something you need to pay attention to.  Holler (no), Throw something (soft) shoot water gun, anything that gets their attention. Catch them before they eat it. Sooner or later they will stop.  This has nothing with how much you feed them.  Some sign’s that they are eating poop are if you never see it in their cage or you see blood in their stools. When we send puppies home, we send you home with  medicine to use in this event. This is a normal event in the puppy raising world and the problem just needs to be dealt with.

    Surprise puppies

Its special when you can surprise a loved one with a french bull dog puppy. But guys, I have seen it backfire when you surprise your wife or spouse with a puppy. Especially if she is the mother of multiple children for you.  They are not always interested in raising a puppy that young and you may not win the brownie points you hoped for. I have had several cancellations when wife found out. So please make sure she wants one or will allow you to have one.  I just want to save some marriages. LOL
